The Canadian Jewish News reports that Israel may soon be adopting the Canadian solution to the Agunot problem.
As I understand it, the law works this way: a person cannot obtain a civil divorce or access joint property until religious barriers to remarriage have been removed. In practice, this would mean that a Jewish man would have to issue a get in order to complete a civil divorce.
Seems like a good idea to me. Any objections?
